First off please could you tell me who you are and what you do in the band?
I am Matt Pickering-Copley and I play bass, do vocals.
And am I right thinking there are only two of you in the band?
That is indeed correct. It's always satisfying when people think we've got guitars in the band.
How did the band form?
I started the project when I was 15 after falling in love with everything noisy. It kind of snowballed into an actual serious thing once Tom joined.
Got quite a few Europe dates coming up - where are you most excited to play?
I'm really excited for our shows in Slovenia and The Czech Republic. I never though I'd ever go to those places in my life, let alone play shows there!
What was the experience of SXSW like? Would you want to play the festival again?
SXSW was an absolute dream come true. I'd wanted to just attend since I was around 11. In an ideal world we would play every year.
How did the split with SIRS come about?
We started working with Topshelf Records in America and they'd just picked up SIRS as well. The music works together on a split and those guys are dudes so it seemed stupid not to do it. Hopefully we'll get to play together sometime!
What keeps you sane on tour?
Seeing our friends. Its one of the best things about tour. Just turning up to a city and being able to hang with someone you don't see often. That and Katy Perry.
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Not really. We try and stretch before we play? But we never do that anyway.
Which other bands on Holy Roar would you recommend we check out?
Brontide, Gallops, Antares and Crocus.
If you could play a tour with any band, past or present, who would you choose?
Jimi Hendrix, Converge, Botch or Daughters. Jimi Hendrix mainly, I just want to chill with him.
Your music is pretty crazy, which artists and bands have been your biggest inspirations musicially?
I am a massive Daughters fan, along with Jeniferever, Converge, Don Cab, Gaza, Native and Zach Hill.
And finally, plans for the rest of the year? Apart from touring... any more recording?
The rest of the year will be spent finishing our album. Ready to record in the first part of 2012. I can't wait!
