Push to Fire Interview: Glamour Of The Kill
Sat backstage of Fibbers in a dressing room, the band seem scarily relaxed, "Nah, we're just really hungover from last night" explains guitarist Chris. Scarborough had the pleasure of their music the previous night and judging by their massive hangovers, it was a good one.
When asked how long the band have known one another, lead singer Davey pipes up after just spitting out an unripe banana, "We've known eachother disgustingly long." Their story started at Tadcaster Grammar School when the boys were mere children. "Davey, Mike and I have known each other for years and we picked up our drummer from another band. We just went on from there really"
Bassist Mikey is using the GHD's in the corner while Davey picks another banana. Despite the cool act they present on stage, they didn't really give off the vibes I expected. "Yeah, we are cool as f***" Chris says bluntly. Perhaps they feel famous already, who knows, but gradually the egos leak out like a cut vein. "We f*** anything that moves and has a pulse." Their arrogance is beginning to shine through like a beacon of light, like true rockers.
They are certainly aware of their fan base and seem extremely image focused, "Our image is GOFF" Yes, two f's. We're very dark, we like wearing black; adds mystery." When asked where the name of the band stemmed from, they replied "it's a lyric from 'I am Hollywood' by a band called He is Legend. It's about a journalist, she looks a lot like you actually and she interviews this amazing band and they rape her in a dressing room, They look like us too" says Mike darkly. Their black humor is uncomfortable to say the least but then they start to talk about normal things, like Shamu the whale for instance and slowly cracks begin to appear in their hard and egotistical exterior.
Getting ready to give their fans what they came for, Glamour of the Kill finish preparing and titivating their hair. You've got to give it to them, they're doing very well for themselves and fast becoming one of the bigger names on York's music scene, even if they are arrogant and trying their utmost to retain their 'famous rock-star' image. Somewhere in there are a bunch of York lads purely loving what they are doing, it's just waiting to be unleashed.
