Push to Fire Interview:
Five Finger Death Punch's guitarist Jason Hook

by Graeme Brown (Manchester)

How is the tour going so far?
It’s great, been awesome. We played Helsinki in Finland and that was a sold out show, it’s amazing to think so many people love the group in such a remote place like Helsinki. Defiantly since we have been back in the UK we are reminded that our popularity has been swelling over here more than some of the other areas, it’s been really nice.

How has the experience been in England so far?
Well it’s all been positive, you get to meet a lot of people that you don’t know who they are but they know who you are. It give you a rush knowing that they are so into the band and they love it.

Anything special planned for us tonight?
The stage is a good size tonight so we have enough room for all our special lights and amps, I really do think it’s going to be an awesome show. We aren’t actually doing anything outside our normal set but I think it’s sold out and we give it our most ever time.

Weirdest best thing to happen on tour so far?
Nothing really, I’m sure there is something but my memory is just failing me right now haha

What styles of metal influence you when making your new album?
Well we all mutually agreed that everything has to have a certain quality level, we want stuff that has good hooks and melodies and that isn’t too much over the listener's head.

How do you create your music, what's the writing process/recording process?
Jeremy and I moved into Zoltan's house in Vegas and set up all our recording gear and basically started writing. With us all living in the house it was easy for us to throw the time in when we wanted to. We could go out for meals if we wanted and come back and record anything we wanted whenever we wanted to.

Has touring effected the music you have been writing? Do you write on tour?
Well not really...we are pretty busy during the day. Night time is an important time and it’s really for us to relax and save our energy for the next show. A lot of people don’t really understand that because even though its only an hour show, it’s so intense, it's just like being in combat. It’s the same for fire fighters, even though we all walk round all day we have an hour of intense working and it really does take it out of you. Trying to get some time to sit down and make music never really happens.

If you had a chance to work with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be?
I think for me personally I would like to work with Eddie Van Halen

What's the response from the new album been like?
Phenomenal, we have worked so hard. It’s like being in a Tornado when your spinning around trying to do your best. We are very critical and very hard on ourselves. We are constantly thinking that if we had a little more time we could have done a little bit of this and that. When it’s all finished we can stand back and really feel proud of it.

What's your favourite album to date?
