Interview with Jeremy from Between the Trees

Between the Trees are a five piece from Orlando, Florida. They recently completed a UK tour with The Rocket Summer (January / February 2008). Push to Fire spoke to their bassist Jeremy Butler about the band and their experiences of touring both in the UK and the America.
If you could introduce yourself and say what you do in the band?
Hey, I'm Jeremy and I play the Bass.

How would you describe your song to those people who might not have heard you before?
Our music is definitely up beat, pop/rock that has meaning. Fun music!

Do you think your band offers something not already provided by the current music scene?
Definitely..there sometimes seems to be a cookie cutter trend going on here and there, but our music is fresh and enjoyable that you can't help but notice something different.

Who are your inspirations? Have you met any of them? if so, what was that like?
We all kinda’ grew up listening to bands like Jimmy Eat World, The Getupkids, Mae and what not. We haven't met any yet, but we have a 6 week spring US tour with Mae coming up that we are all super excited for.

What has it been like to tour the UK?
It's been amazing! The people here are incredible, and just simply love music. The scenery is beautiful and the venues insanely accommodating!

Any one show that you especially enjoyed?
Playing Manchester was crazzzzy! It was the biggest show of the tour, and like I said, the kids are sooo amazing!

Which is your favourite song to play live and why?
My personal favorite is definitely White Lines and Red Lights. It's got some pop to it and it's fun to just go insane and have fun. Plus the crowd really gets into it, so it makes it so much more enjoyable.

What's the coolest thing that's happened to you when performing live?
The coolest thing I would have to say was our last date on Warped Tour this past summer. We had made some friends on the tour and they all came out to support us. As we were looking at side stage as well as into the crowd we saw members from The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Yellowcard, Boys Like Girls, as well as All Time Low all there supporting us. It was a cool feeling for sure.

What was the highlight of 2007 for the band?
The highlight for 2007 would have to be a mix between signing to Universal, and our Hometown Christmas show here in Orlando. Both were amazing moments.

What are your aspirations for the rest of 2008?
We want this to be the year. The CD is released under Universal and we’re looking for big things to happen this year. Great tours as well!

We heard you're playing Download...will this be your first UK festival? How do you feel about this opportunity?
We actually played this past Download..not the one coming up. But to answer your question, it was unbelievable!! Sooooo many people all there to listen to music. Plus we got to share the stage with bands like Paramore, all the way to Motley Crue. So needless to say..it was unforgettable!

What other festivals have you played (any country)? e.g. warped 2007? What was that like?
We've played Warped Tour, Bamboozle Left and the original Bamboozle, as well as Download in the UK. All the festivals are always great. You're playing with friends as well as bands that you have yet to see...it's always a blast.

and a few of random qus...
When you were little what did you want to be when you were older?
A professional Baseball Player

What was the first cd you ever bought?
Switchfoot- Beautiful Let Down

What do you insist on having at every show (ie. on your rider)?
Hmmm...we're not super picky..but we do enjoy a nice Red Bull. However, if we ever get to be super HUGE, I know we'd all like Hot wings with tons of Bleu Cheese dressing. It'd be a must!
