Push to Fire Q&A: MyChildren MyBride's Robert Bloomfield (guitar)
by Rob Barker

MyChildren MyBride

For the uninitiated, how would you describe MyChildren MyBride’s sound?
I'd say we're a metal band fused with hardcore. We take a lot of influence from each side of the spectrum.

You’re over a week into your U.S. tour with Haste the Day, what’s it like being on the road with them?
The best of the best. There's nothing like touring with your friends. You constantly have someone to hang with or just talk to. We're very fortune to call them our friends.

Do you think that being on the road with another Christian band makes a difference to the touring experience
It definitely does to a certain point. It's easier to turn to such a close friend who you know has their faith in God as well. It's very uplifting.

You start your European tour in March, do you think there are any major differences between playing shows in Europe and in the U.S?
It's a complete 180. Kids are so appreciative of music over there. They know that American bands don't come around that often. Here in the states we probably do 3 to 4, even 5 full tours a year. Hitting cities multiple times throughout. And we've only been to Europe once in our career. It's crazy. I have probably over 50 tour laminates from the States and only a single European one haha.

What’s a typical day on tour like for MCMB?
Well we try to have as much fun as possible. Sometimes it's a zoo day and sometimes it's a shopping day. But there are also times where we don't get to do much because the drives between cities are so long. Lots of days and nights spent driving...

What are the band’s plans after the tour?
After Europe we come back and do New England Metal and Hardcore festival. Shortly after that we fly down for a fest in Mexico.

How does the sound of Lost Boy differ from that of Unbreakable?
We toned it down a little. Not too much though. Lost Boy is our effort at writing structured songs. We strived for that catchy chorus and meaningful verses.

What do you feel the band’s lineup changes have brought to, or taken away from, your sound?
Our former drummer wrote 95% of Unbreakable before most of the guys were in the band. My old band toured with MCMB in 2005 or 2006 and I remember them playing "Wings of integrity" and "Boris the blade". Now with our current lineup 4 out of 5 members write music. We are all in the writing process now so it's quite a change since the old days..

What influenced Lost Boy? Does the record have a theme?
It's not a concept record but it's mostly about finding your way. We are all lost. Believer or non believer, we're lost.

What’s the reaction to Lost Boy been like compared to Unbreakable?
It's been received really well. At the rate it's going it'll double what Unbreakable did, which is amazing. It's always a great thing to see things constantly moving in a forward direction.

How do you spend your time between shows?
Like home life? Hmm. I like to read a lot, write music, I'm a big movie buff. I have a couple motorcycles so when I'm home I tend to always ride. There's nothing like being on a bike. Especially when you're in a van for half your life haha.

Unbreakable featured a track called Headshot, are the band big gamers?
Matthew and Brian were really the only gamers at the time of its release. I mean I'd play Guitar Hero or some FIFA from time to time but Matthew would play Halo for 12 hours straight.

Lost Boys is available to play on Rock Band now, have you had a chance to play it yet? Is it odd playing your own track on a game?
I actually haven't gotten a chance yet! I got the email that it went up and the first thing I thought was "I wonder if I can even beat it" haha.

Finally, if you could tour with any band, past or present, who would it be?
Definitely Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, or Cradle of Filth. Actually that would be my dream tour right there. Maybe even throw in Alice in Chains! Haha.
