Lecarla are Lizzy Dent (Lead Vocals), Joe Alfano (Lead Guitar), Nikki Brightman (Bass), Stevie Shepperson (Rhythm Guitar) and Stephen North (Drums). Lizzy and Joe recently took some time out to answer some questions from Push to Fire.
Tell us a bit about how Lecarla started
Two of our members were in a band previously which broke down, and then wanted to start something fresh so that's when the other three members came in to form Lecarla! We've been going for just under two years now.
How does the song writing process happen in Lecarla?
Well usually Joe will work out an idea and then record it, send it to Stephen, who will have a play over in on drums, I'll (Lizzy) work out some lyrically ideas and then we bring it to practice and develop in from there really with Stevie and Nikki adding their ideas on top. We find this works really well and has produced the best outcomes so far.
How has the tour been going?
This tour has been amazing so far. We've pretty much just come to the end of it now after gigging a total of 19 dates through March to April. The responses we've got have been crazy. A lot more people are beginning to take interest and are singing along to our songs in places we've never ventured until now. It's such a great feeling!
Any plans to do shows further north?
Of course! We are set for an O2 Academy tour in September time that will through Sheffield and Newcastle. But we will definitely be gigging up there before then hopefully as we have quite a few fans up that way.
You've done a few shows and tours with various bands now - which band have you enjoyed playing shows with the most so far and why?
It would probably have to be the two bands we've just finished tour with: Arms of Atlas and Violet - both awesome bands and amazing people. Check them out!
If you could tour with any band, past or present, who would you pick?
Hmmm this is a hard one! I reckon maybe Versaemerge or Fightstar maybe (Lizzy). I think probably Alexisonfire or maybe Young Guns. Both immense! (Joe),
Who are the band's musical influences?
Our influences seem to range from all over. From Alexisonfire to Snow Patrol through to Sub Focus, Brand New, all different bands really.
What are the three things you cannot live without on tour?
Haha well it seems straighteners, toilet facilities and place to wash? Basic hygiene is about it really. As long as we all dont smell too much then it's all good!
What's the best thing about being in Lecarla?
I think we'd all say that it's the reaction we get from the crowd, them singing along to our tunes and listening and hopefully liking our music means so much to us and really makes being in this band feel so special. Without the fans at the end of it all, we wouldn't be where we are now and would continue to grow, so thanks :)
Any plans for a release of an album any time soon?
We are currently working on new material and will be releasing another single within 2011 to then go on to get an album out there next year at some point. We just really want to make sure that we are happy with the songs, instead of rush to get a release together. We want it to be the best it can be.
What are your plans for the rest of 2011?
We will be back on tour again, joining Jody Has A Hitlist from 28th April through to 5th May. Then we've got a few tours for September and October, some heading into Europe. Really looking forward to it! We are gigging pretty much all the time so if anyone wants to catch us at a show then check our facebook/myspace pages and get down to see us soon!
