Push to Fire Interview: Heroes for Hire's vocalist Brad
by Meghan Player

Heroes for Hire

The band name is also the name of a Marvel comic, are you comic book fans or did you just like the sound of the name?
The band name was actually something random I came up with and thought it was cool, it wasn't until a year or two later that we heard about the comic. I suppose it's a pretty cool coincidence.

You recently were the opening act for Unwritten Law - what was that experience like?
UL were one of our favorite bands whilst growing up, so the tour to us was more about watching our idols every night and it was an amazing experience! Also Scott Russo showed us the real meaning of how to party.

You've toured with other big name acts such as Boys Like Girls, A Day To Remember and Parkway Drive - what have you learnt from touring with these bands? Do you ever feel intimidated sharing the stage with these acts?
It's a little daunting at first because those bands are actually huge! We get to see bands that give it their all and kill it every night, it has kind of set us a bar to reach that we continually push for.

You recorded the new album in the US - do you think that influenced the way the album turned out, sound wise?
Not at all. The album was written long before we arrived in Baltimore. Our producer Paul Leavitt did help us with some of the songs that weren't all they could be. Though to be honest, the fact the local Baltimore beer, natty Bo, was $15.36 for a case, that probably had an effect on our performances!

The new album, 'Take One For The Team' will be released next week - what can you tell us about it?
It's 12 tracks we spent a long time putting together - with the aim of wiping the floor with our previous record!

Paul Leavitt, who has worked with the likes of All Time Low and Senses Fail - produced the new album, what was that experience like?
Paul was a legend, and so was his dog, Cameron. His studio was in downtown Baltimore on the harbor. We slept in the studio, got up and recorded then went out exploring at night. It was an unforgettable experience but in all seriousness he really helped us shape the songs to what you hear now.

How did you approach making this album? Was it different to your debut album?
With this album we sat down with the intention to write an actual album, unlike last time where we just threw together whatever we had ready. We also wanted to make sure we had a more upbeat fun album due to our last one having a few too many ballads. We will leave that to Michael Bolton and Celine Dion.

You will certainly be busy over the coming weeks/months - with the album being released and touring with Short Stack - what are you looking forward to most?
We can't wait to get the album out finally to all our fans that have waited since we got back from the US to hear what we came up with. The Short Stack tour is going to be huge and finally a chance for us to tour with our good mates, so we will meet a bunch of new kids at all the shows and hopefully see Andy naked again.
