Push to Fire Q&A: Forever Wednesday
by Hannah Sebestjanowicz

Forever Wednesday

So what's Forever Wednesday's line up like?
I'm James and I play bass in the band. We've also got Andy who plays drums, Charlie who's our front man, Jack who plays guitar and sings and Josh who also plays guitar.

Your debut album is going to be released on the 11th April you must be pretty excited?
Yeah extremely. There was a lot of hard work put into the writing and recording so we can't wait to hear what people have to say about it. Obviously with the band going in a new direction we're looking forward to hearing the response.

What was the recording process like?
Yeah really good. The guys at the studio really made us feel at home, we had a right old crack up there. We've recently gone through a lot of the studio footage we took and it's ridiculous.

What are your personal favourite songs off the album and why?
For me it's either got to be 'Time To Get A Real Job Mr Wolf' or 'Navigate'. Mr Wolf is a quite a funny story and general bouncy track and Navigate just gets in your face and gets me really pumped.

For those who haven’t heard of Forever Wednesday how would you describe your sound?
We like to think we can appeal to more than one crowd and I think when people get hold of this record they will see this. We write what we like and the fact we are influenced by a range of bands means that we dip into different 'genres' and with that there is such a variety on the album. We go from post-hardcore to dabble into a bit of southern rock to then dabble into experimental, pop rock etc. We like to mix it up and we're hoping this record shows it that we are capable of it.

What are your influences as band?
Beer, playing shows, partying, Fifa, football, our bromance etc. I could write pages!

You have had some pretty high profile support slots with the likes of You Me at Six and We Are the Ocean, what was it like playing alongside these bands?
Yeah we've been lucky to play with some extremely noticeable bands in the history of Forever Wednesday. I mean, we played with them when they were on their way to the top and we hope we can be up there soon.

If you could tour with anyone who would it be?
That's such a difficult question to answer! There are so many incredible bands that are coming up and so many bands that we have looked up to for years. Underoath, Saosin, Every Time I Die, Parkway Drive etc. would be like a dream. However, a tour is a tour, as long as we get to play shows and party every night we will be extremely happy.

The band has a few line-up changes, how has that affected you as a band?
As one of the new members myself, I personally think the band has only got stronger. As far as I'm aware members left because their interests lay elsewhere, and if your heart isn't in it then you'll never be giving 100%. As members have grown up and there have been new members to influence, I think the sound has certainly matured. Were in this band for a reason. We want to play music, we want to write music and share it with people that want to listen. Our intentions are clear so as far as I'm concerned things have all turned out for the best.

On your Facebook page you all seem to have nicknames, can you shed some light on how they came about?
Haha we just take the piss out of ourselves a lot! The majority reflect our personalities or faults. I had mine changed from Russell (because I have short man syndrome and I'm like my Jack Russell dog) to Sid (because of apparent resemblance to the Ice Age character) so I'm not very happy about the new one! Charlie is 'Stilton' because his feet are horrendous. Josh is 'Burt' because of resemblance to the Seseme Street character and I have no idea why Andy is 'Keith' and Jack is 'John'.

There have been numerous articles in the press recently declaring ‘Rock and Roll’ dead, what are your thoughts on this?
To be quite honest, when I read it, I laughed. It's a ridiculous thing to say especially with the bands that were brought up in the article. Yeah the state of the industry is pretty dire at the moment with lack of sales etc. The bands we go to see still pull in massive crowds, have kids going mental and have them singing back to them. What more do you want? If someone hears about us, and our album and wants to download it, then who are we to turn around and tell them not to. If they want to buy it even better but it's not the end of the world if they don't. We didn't set out writing this album to make money off it, if people listen and come to a show then that's the main thing for us.

Are there any bands that are getting you excited right now and what albums are looking forward to in 2011?
There are so many! There are so many bands coming out of the UK that are absolute gems. Deaf Havana, We Are The Ocean, Lower Than Atlantis and I'm really looking forward to hearing a band called Brother's release. Also Memphis May Fire and Our Last Night. Oh and Adele's new album is a beaut.

What does 2011 hold for Forever Wednesday?
We want to get on the road as much as possible! We're booking tours as we speak so we can promote this album as much as we can, meet new people and play to crowds because that's why we are in this band at the end of the day.
