Push to Fire Q&A: Bury Your Dead
by Suzy Harrison

Bury Your Dead

First off, please could you tell us who you are and what you do in the band?
My name is Mat, and I sing for Bury Your Dead, although I don't really do all that much actual singing.

And who else is in the band and what do they do?
Bury Your Dead also has Slim B. On Guitar, Chris Towning playing guitar as well, and Dustin on Drums.

It's clear that Bury Your Dead has had a lot of previous band members but still the band keeps going - what's kept Bury Your Dead going for so many years despite all the changes?
We just love playing shows. There's nowhere else in the universe where you can get the rush of playing shows: pile-ons and stage dives. We love it.

Mosh & Roll comes out in August. What can we expect from this? How's it different to your previous releases?
Heavy. We pretty much tried to write a record that would go over live as heavy and energetic as possible. Breakdowns and sing-alongs for everyone. We love it.

How have the tracks gone down live on tour so far? What's the reception been like?
The reception has been great! So many kids already know the words to Slaughterhouse Five, and the others have really hit hard. And kids return the energy with energy of their own.

How's the Over the Limit II tour going?
Great tour, good bands, long shows, lots of Mafia.

You've got a non-stop schedule pretty much till the third week of August. Are you looking forward to coming back to Europe?
I've actually never been to Europe. I know these guys have been a few times, but it will be my first trip. I'm excited to see if everyone really goes as hard as I hear they do. I'm really looking forward to it.

You seem to have a few festivals booked in Germany especially (e.g. Sucks n Summer fest, Brotherhood fest) - in what ways do you think the atmosphere and overall experiences of European festivals differs to US festivals?
I'm the wrong person for that question, but I will say that I EXPECT those shows to be some of the craziest we've ever played. A ton of kids just losing it the whole time. I know I will be.

What's the best thing about tour?
Shows.

And the worst?
Drives.

If there was anywhere you've been on tour that you could go and visit for a bit longer, where would you choose and why?
England, just to see something cool. We were there for 1 day, and then rushed home. I'm sure once I've been to more European countries, my answer will be more interesting.

And finally what are your plans for the rest of 2011?
I go back to teaching in September. And then we plan to play more shows. We gotta get these records off the shelf.

Much thanks to Mat for taking the time to answer our questions. Find more info and music clips on their MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/buryyourdead. The band are currently touring Europe (August 2011) and their new album is out now!
