Pushtofire.com launched a year ago on the 1st January 2008, but since that date, the website has been a constant hive of activity, featuring literally hundreds of bands in our photo galleries, live reviews, audio interviews, written features, and record reviews. Plus, we’ve brought you fashion articles and exclusive interviews, and hints and tips on alternative media releases from cinema and television. We even had our own gig in November!

It's been nothing short of electric, so here are our Eds to share some web site favourites from 2008...

Rachel's top five...

1. Putting on our first gig was obviously a highlight, featuring three of the most impressive bands I’ve ever seen live - Stella Dawes, the_Network, and Take A Worm For A Walk Week. The photo album from the evening can be viewed on the website here - http://www.pushtofire.com/photos/PushtoFirepresents161108/index.html

2. It’s always awesome to discover new music, and one of our favourite ones-to-watch has been Grinspoon. Contributor Meghan Player spoke to their drummer Kris Hopes about the band and their music in a pushtofire.com exclusive interview, which can be read here - http://www.pushtofire.com/grinspoon.html

3. One of my favourite records of the year was, without question, Mindless Self Indulgence's 'If'. They’ve gotten a lot of attention over 2008, and not always for their music and live performance, but the album was absolutely true to the band and a fantastic release - http://www.pushtofire.com/musicreviewsarchive.html#article26

4. Pushtofire has always aimed to provide something more than the same bands and people that other media outlets continually cover, so it was exciting to have an interview with alternative model Ulorin Vex at the start of the year - http://www.pushtofire.com/ulorinvex.html

5. Another personal highlight was covering a brand new festival - Z008 Fest in Kent. The line-up featured some incredible bands including Gallows, The Hives, Funeral For A Friend, Hadouken!, and many more. Our photographer, Dez Andrews, captured the excitement and energy of the weekend with his camera -

Suzy's favourites...

6. This year saw Rebel Alliance Recordings (managed by Sonic Boom Six) release an amazing album by The Babylon Whackers. This album was most certainly one of my favourites of 2008 and I hope there is more to come from the band in 2009 - http://www.pushtofire.com/musicreviewsarchive.html#article32

7. Another highlight for me this year was interviewing JR from Less Than Jake. I had a great time interviewing him and the band's new album (GNV FLA) marked a return to the classic LTJ sound. Despite being a band who have been around for so long their release and UK tour were sound proof that they are still going strong -

8. This year was my second time at Groezrock Festival in Belgium and I loved covering it for Push to Fire. The festival is smaller than Leeds Festival and features a number of globally known acts who aren't as mainstream as the ones we get in at UK festivals - it's like having just the Lockup Stage from Leeds Festival for an entire independent festival. If you want to do something different this year, take a trip to Meerhout (groezrock.be for more info) -

9. You Me at Six were definitely a band I saw go from strength to strength in 2008. Over the course of the year they did numerous tours, played several festivals and even had a reschedule their Leeds headline tour date so that they could play at Wembley with the mighty Fall Out Boy. A lot's happened since we interviewed them back in February 2008 - http://www.pushtofire.com/youmeatsix.html

10. And finally, 2008 was a year of some absolutely outstanding photos on pushtofire.com and that's certainly thanks to having some brilliant photographers on board. Take a look at our current albums) and then have a look at the best photos from 2008.
